Patriotic Fun Facts!

With Independence Day right around the corner, we thought that we would provide some facts about our great country!

Did you know...

  • An estimated 2.5 million people lived in America in 1776. Today-309 million!
  • In 1941, Congress declared July 4th a federal holiday!
  • The stars on the original American Flag were arranged in a circle to ensure that all colonies were equal!
  • America's mascot, the bald eagle, can achieve speeds of up to 200 miles per hour when making a predatory dive!
  • The American flag patch is backwards on the U.S. Army Uniforms.  The reason? The blue field on the flag (the part with the stars) faces forward to symbolize carrying the American flag into battle!
  • Someone who specialized in the history of flags is called a vexillologist!
  • The word "patriotism" comes from a Latin word, which means "homeland"!

Throughout the year, may we always count our blessings to be able to live in the best country on our planet! May God Bless America!

A Summertime Must: The Dental Connection!

With Summer comes the fun of outdoor activities.  Our team at Thomas Family Dentistry want all of our valued patients to be safe this summer while having fun in the sun!  Here's a list of things to consider about mouth protection and those regular summertime activities.

  • Why are mouth guards important?  They protect the teeth, lips, cheeks and tongue.
  • When do I need to wear one?  Any activity that risks a fall like football, baseball, basketball, soccer, hockey, skateboarding, even gymnastics.
  • Which mouth guard is best?  Any one is better than none, but a custom guard is best.

Our office is committed to your dental safety during any sports activity!  To have an affordable, custom sports guard made for you or your children, call our office at 918-455-0123!

Dairy Month: The Dental Connection!

Did you know that June marks National Dairy Month!  Our entire dental team at Thomas Family Dentistry would like to take this time to thank all of our hard working families in the Dairy Industry.

Not only is dairy important to your overall health, but dairy products also have an important "Dental Connection".   Recent studies have found that the regular consumption of dairy products, such as milk, cheese and yogurt, can lower your chances of contracting periodontal disease ( also known as gum disease).

Eating dairy products are not just healthy for building strong bones, but they are essential for maintaining a strong, healthy mouth!  If you have any questions about nutrition and your dental health, call us at 918-455-0123.

Summer Tips: The Dental Connection!

Summer is only a few short weeks away, which means a season full of vacations, adventures and great memories is just around the corner for most of our patients. Everyone wants a glowing and radiant white smile when summer officially arrives.  Here are a few tips to keep your pearly whites healthy and beautiful over the summer.

  • Avoid teeth staining drinks like coffee, soft drinks or dark colored juices.
  • Brush for a full two minutes twice daily to remove plaque, which can discolor teeth.
  • When you cannot brush, try rinsing you mouth with water after every meal.

As summer quickly approaches and those favorite outdoor activities like backyard barbecues, camping trips, and family vacations gear up, don't let your dental health take a back seat!  If you have any questions concerning other tips to keep your smile its best and brightest, give us a call at 918-455-0123.
